Just a peek...

Today I'm giving you just a peek at what's going to be in my Card of the Week Newsletter.  I've neglected it for quite some time and I apologize for that.  But I haven't forgotten about it, in fact, I've been giving it a LOT of thought.  And have finally decided to provide a newsletter each week (or maybe every 2 weeks) featuring a card that is easily duplicate-able and easily adjusted to your own color and stamp preferences, complete with measurements and instructions. I will also provide more than one sample so you get ideas of how to "change it up". I'm excited about working on it and hope it will be a great service to you all, customers and demonstrators alike.
I think its important for your crafting time to be productive and rewarding so my goal with the newsletter is to provide projects that help you with that end. I also think it's important that you DO craft and especially that you use your Stampin' Up! supplies you've purchased.  When someone receives a handmade card from you in the mail, they know it's a message from the heart. If you're a demonstrator, especially part of my downline, these projects will be great for your classes and workshops.
So if you haven't signed up, make sure you click on the tab above "Sign up for my Card of the Week Newsletter" OR "like" me on FACEBOOK because those are the places you'll be able to find the newsletter.  The newsletter will be a Google doc and I'll be emailing you a link and posting a link on Facebook.  Only people with the link will be able to view it.  It's free.  You'll be able to download or print the newsletter for your personal use.  Just so you know, the newsletter will also include Stampin' Up! updates and my current specials, but I promise they won't take up very much space!
Thanks for stopping by today!

Stampin' Up! Rue Des Fleurs Batik background

This umbrella from the Rue Des Fleurs stamp set, available from the Occasions Mini Catalog (ending April 30, 2012), was the perfect feminine design I was looking for to stamp on this Batik background.
I've created a downloadable tutorial for this card and the Batik background that I created with ordinary household wax paper, an embossing folder, and an ordinary iron.  Click HERE to download the google doc.
With the inside greeting of "Thanks for watching over me", I think this would make a nice Mother's Day card, don't you?

If you are in the Tucson, AZ area, I would love to teach you and your friends how to make this card!  Please contact me!  Click the contact me badge in the upper left side bar of my blog.  (I've just moved here and would love to meet you!)

And thanks for stopping by!

Stampin' Up! Mixed Bunch Mini Catalog Case

I'm one of those people who love to pour over the Stampin' Up! catalogs over and over again, and it seems that each time I do, I find something new.  The card on page 17 of the Occasions Mini Catalog (Click HERE to view pdf of the catalog) jumped out at me this morning and so I came up with this CASE (copy and share everything) of that awesome card.  (By the way, the Occasions Mini Catalog sales period ENDS on APRIL 30, 2012)
Now that I'm looking at it again, I think I should have added one of those small stamped centers from the Mixed Bunch stamp set.
I needed a card for a good friend of mine in Sidney and I think this will do perfectly.

I have trouble lining up my card fronts in the Framed Tulips Embossing folder so I like to cut a piece of card stock to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches, emboss and then cut around the edges.  This is easy to do because of the embossed lines in the design.
Just the other day, someone asked me for advice on lining up the stamped images from Mixed Bunch with the Blossom punch, so here's a photo of what I explained.  Take a look at the way the punch works by looking at the bottom, then line up your stamped image the same way on your paper.  In this case it means having a vertical petal at the top when you stamp as I've shown in the photos below.

And the way I like to add that little bit of scalloped edge that I punched with the Dotted Ribbon Border punch is with Sticky Strip. After you position the sticky strip on the dotted ribbon, peel off the protective layer and carefully add the pleated ribbon so that only that tiny edge of scallop shows out the bottom.  I love that look!
Another piece of sticky strip on the back of the punched ribbon is how I adhered it to the card front. And here's another look at the finished project.

Stampin' Up! Awash With Flowers Card

Two weekends ago, Shawn, J and I went to the 4th Avenue Street Fair here in Tucson.  It was so much fun sampling our way along the booths and being inspired by all the beautiful art work.  There were so many incredibly talented artists there.
Shawn and I love wine and had fun tasting with one of the wineries at the fair .  We came home with a bottle of Kokopelli Sweet Lucy wine (visit their website HERE), and, in my typical fashion, I was inspired by the wine bottle label.  Here are the results of that inspiration.

I used the pewter embossing powder to emboss the flower and stem images from Awash with Flowers stamp set on Very Vanilla card stock.  Then I used Cajun Craze ink and an Aqua Painter to add a little color wash around the inside edges of the flowers and leaves.  Then I crinkled the paper slightly and started sponging on color.  The layering of color is what creates this “old world” look and gives the background great depth.  The order of colors was Crumb Cake, Soft Suede and Early Espresso.  Then I took the Aqua Painter and washed over each of the images and over most of the background just using plain water--no color added.  Adding that bit of water brings out all the different hues in the ink and creates a one of kind background. Finally, I spritzed the image and background paper with Black, Crumb Cake and Pool Party markers.
The sentiment, Inspire, was stamped using the Loving Thoughts stamp set from the Occasions Mini Catalog which is only available until April 30th, 2012.
Loving Thoughts Stamp set, available in wood, clearmount, and DIGITAL (instant download)!
Thanks for stopping by to take a look and let me know what you think of this technique or if you have any questions.  It was a lot of fun to do.
Till later,
Kelly

Stampin' Up! Petal Cone Carrot Box with Summer Smooches DSP

A couple of days ago, I posted a cute little Easter basket made with our beautiful Everyday Enchantment Designer Series paper and coordinating brads and ribbon.  It was very easy to do.
Today’s little Easter treat holder was even easier to put together because I didn’t even have to measure and score! (I know it's now too late to order and make these for this Easter, but hopefully it will inspire other ideas for your upcoming events like birthdays and Mother's Day)
Petal Cone Bigz L Die (for use with your Big Shot), #121810, purchase HERE.
I simple put two pieces of our new SMOOCHES designer paper through the Big Shot with our Bigz L Petal Cone die, added a few pieces of sticky strip, punched two holes for the ribbon, tied a bow, stamped and layered a tag, then tied it on with some baker’s twine.
Our dies make it so easy to create quick and easy projects with a Big Shot and when you use our coordinating products, then you can be confident that the end result will be stunning.
Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper (DSP) #125409
DIGITAL-Summer Smooches KIT, #129601 (instant download, click HERE to purchase)
I loved that this pattern from the SUMMER SMOOCHES designer paper had both the Tangerine side and the Lucky Limeade side so I didn’t even have to find any other colors.  I had my carrot and green top all in one cut.  I think I’ll make some yummy little chocolate dipped shortbread button cookies to go inside.

The summer smooches promotion is Sneak Peek preview of the new catalog that you can purchase early in April 2012.  The colors choices in this paper and in the designer brads are so vibrant and happy.  Check out all the products available for purchase HERE!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
